It’s wild, the differences. We didn’t have smartphones, Uber, Booking.com…none of it. It hasn’t all been good additions, but it has given me convenient “outs” when I want them. As I tell myself: I already did my “purist” Camino, and guess what? No one cares that we took a bus that one time across the meseta. We made a decision and weighed what we wanted most, and did it. Same here. 15 years older, sometimes the day is DONE before I’m at my destination, and when that happens, why should I risk more pain to my feet, more sunburn to my skin, more misery to the journey? It’s already hard. Even the ancient pilgrims hopped an oxcart when they could; I’m sure of it. There’s no special compostela for never taking an Uber. =D
